Lakhdaria, ALGERIA: An Algerian policeman stands guard as security forces block the road to Lakhdaria, 70 kilometres (45 miles) southeast of Algiers, where a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-packed truck into an Algerian barracks 11 July 2007, killing eight soldiers, according to security sources. The attack took place just a few hours before a major African sporting event started in the capital. A major security operation was launched around Lakhdaria, in parallel to the huge precautions taken for the All-Africa Games which involve 8,000 athletes from more than 20 countries.
