رئيس الوزراء الاسترالي السابق يسعى لتولي منصب الامين العام للأمم المتحدة

يسعى رئيس الوزراء الأسترالي السابق كيفن رود لتولي منصب الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، ويرغب في الحصول على المساعدة من خصومه السياسيين الذين يتولون حاليا مقاليد السلطة في البلاد.

وقالت وزيرة الخارجية جولي بيشوب، إن رود طلب ترشيح استراليا له رسميا لخلافة بان كي مون، الذي تنتهي فترة ولايته في 31 كانون أول.

واوضحت بيشوب أن هذا الأمر سيطرح على مجلس الوزراء للبت فيه.

وكان رود يقود حزب العمال، بينما تنتمي بيشوب ورئيس الوزراء الحالي مالكوم تيرنبول إلى الحزب الليبرالي.

وفي حال تم ترشيحه، سيتنافس رود مع رئيسة وزراء نيوزيلندا السابقة هيلين كلارك، التي أعلنت عن ترشحها في وقت سابق من العام الجاري.
